Solanum tarvun,
In Malay it is known as Pokok Terung Pipit,Terung Rembang orTerung Manggul, is a shrub growing to about 5 feet or more. It is used to treat headaches, aching muscles, cholera, diarrhoea and to bring down a high fever. A lotion made from the leaves is used to treat haemorrhoids or piles, whilst the roots may be pound into a paste to treat cracks in the feet. The fruit of the Terong Pipit is eaten to help reduce high blood pressure. Apart from these medicinal values, rural people add the leaves of the Terong Pipit into food as an appetite enhancer.
TO KNOW OUR FRUITS/PLANTS 5
The eggplant, aubergine, or brinjal (Solanum melongena) in Malay t is known as buah terung. - a plant of the family Solanaceae (also known as the nightshades) and genus Solanum. It bears a fruit of the same name, commonly used as a vegetable in cooking. As a night-shade, it is closely related to the tomato and potato and is native to India and Sri Lanka. It is a delicate perennial often cultivated as an annual. It grows 40 to 150 cm (16 to 57 in) tall, with large coarsely lobed leaves that are 10 to 20 cm (4-8 in) long and 5 to 10 cm (2-4 in) broad. (Semi-)wild types can grow much larger, to 225 cm (7 ft) with large leaves over 30 cm (12 in) long and 15 cm (6 in) broad. The stem is often spiny. The flowers are white to purple, with a five-lobed corolla and yellow stamens. The fruit is fleshy, less than 3 cm in diameter on wild plants, but much larger in cultivated forms. The fruit is botanically classified as a berry, and contains numerous small, soft seeds, which are edible, but are bitter because they contain (an insignificant amount of) nicotinoid alkaloids, unsurprising in a close relative of tobacco.

ALOE VERA
IN MALAY IT IS KOWN AS LIDAH BUAYA Aloe vera, also known as the Medicinal Aloe, is a species of Aloe, native to Africa. The species is a leaf and stem succulent plant that has been used in herbal medicine. Extracts from A. vera are widely used in the cosmetics and alternative medicine industries being marketed as variously having rejuvenating, healing or soothing properties. There is, however, little scientific evidence of the efficacy of A. vera extracts for either cosmetic or medicinal purposes and what positive evidence is available is frequently contradicted by other studies.

PANDANUS AMARYLLIFOLIUS
In Malay is Pandan Wangi
Pandanus amaryllifolius is a tropical plant in the screwpine genus which is known commonly as pandan and used widely in Southeast Asian cooking. It is an erect green plant with fan-shaped sprays of long, narrow, bladelike leaves and woody aerial roots. The plant is sterile, flowers only very rarely, and is propagated by cuttings. The plant is rare in the wild but cultivated widely for use as a flavoring in cooking. The leaves are used fresh or wilted, and are commercially available in frozen form in Asian grocery stores in nations where the plant does not grow. They have a nutty, botanical fragrance which enhances the flavor of Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, and Indonesian foods, especially rice dishes and cakes. The leaves are sometimes steeped in coconut milk, which is then added to the dish. They may be tied in a bunch and cooked with the food. They also may be woven into a basket which is used as a pot for cooking rice. Pandan chicken, or gai ob bai toey, is a Thai dish with chicken wrapped in pandan leaves and fried. The leaves are also used as a flavoring for desserts such as pandan cake and sweet beverages. In Indonesian it is called pandan wangi and in Vietnamese it is called lá dứa. The leaves of the plant have a repellent effect on cockroaches.[1] The characteristic aroma of pandan is caused by the aroma compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline which also gives white bread, jasmine rice and basmati rice, and bread flowers (Vallais glabra) their typical smell [2].

WHAT MY GRANDMA TOLD ME (3)

Lying down
  • Lying down without any pillow on your head may bring bad luck to you.
  • Lying down with your leg crossed may also bring bad luck to you.
  • Never use your hand as a pillow while lying down, it symbolises a lazy person.
Travelling:
  • If you travel at a long distant and a long period of time, before you live your home, look at the roof of your house. This will keep you keep you remember you home and you will be back soon.
  • If any member of your family is travelling by boat or sea, the person left at home must not do any cleaning, washing or sweeping rubbish. Wait untill he reaches the destination. If not he might encounter difficulties on the way.
  • If you visit a new place, upon arrival, before you do anything else, smudge a bit of soil to your fore head as a sign of welcome to the new place. The new visitor might not feel strange to the new place.
  • Why is it so if you travel to a new place you will feel that it takes a long time for you to reach your destination? It is because everything that you pass by on the way (plants, animals and etc) greet you and ask where you are going.

Left-Over Food

  • never throw away any left over of food in the rubbish bin. The soul of the food minght be sulky and you will not get enough food to eat in the next harvesting season.
  • unfinished food should be given to your pets.
